This relaxed friendly class is not for complete beginners but it is for those who prefer to learn and play at a relatively gentle pace. The tunes have been chosen for their suitability to sound satisfying at any speed and to nurture the abilities of participants. Tunes will be drawn mainly from English, Irish and Scottish and European traditions. The class allows time for participants to work on technical issues such as violin and bow hold, release of tension whilst playing and leaning to increase confidence.

An Exploration of tunes from the most northerly point of the Uk. The shetland tradition is very much alive and thriving with new tunes being added to the repertoire constantly. Looking at inspirational players such as Tom Anderson Willie Hunter Aly Bain Catriona  MacDonald Jenna Reid, our exploration will range from Muckle or Auld Reels, Trowie ( fairie) tunes, wedding tunes through to modern Shetland reels and listening tunes.

An Introduction to the weird and wonderful world of the Donegal fiddle tradition. The remote and unique landscape of Donegal and its close links with Scotland have meant that the musical traditions have retained a very distinct character. This course looks at some of the different tune types which are rarely heard outside of Donegal - such as Highlands and Mazurkas as well as some cracking reels and a beautiful waltz - and explores tunes played by masters such as James Byrne, Vincent Campbell and John Doherty.
